Build the team that builds the desks.
About Par Trading
Par Trading is a Hong Kong–based proprietary trading firm. We trade our own capital across traditional and digital markets, combining proprietary and systematic trading. We believe the next decade of trading opportunity lies where market boundaries are dissolving: assets trade around the clock, and traditional and digital markets increasingly price each other. Par Trading is built from day one to operate across markets — one research process, one risk framework, one execution stack — and runs as three layers working together: people, systems and agents, so a lean team can capture durable returns at that frontier.
The role
We are looking for an HRBP, reporting directly to the core management team.
Recruiting is the heart of this role. Par Trading is building a discretionary desk and a systematic desk at the same time, and most of the key hires over the next year will run through you — from understanding what desk heads actually need, to finding those people, winning them over, and bringing them smoothly into the team. Beyond that, you own performance management and day-to-day people matters, so a fast-growing trading team stays on solid footing.
Our hiring process, evaluation mechanism and compensation structure are all still being built out, and you will shape them alongside management and the desk heads as the team grows.
What you will own
- Recruiting operations
Run the pipeline for discretionary traders, quant PMs and pod members: channels, résumé screening, interview and test scheduling, headhunter coordination, candidate communication and experience, and keep improving the hiring process together with the desk heads. - Onboarding and employment compliance
Employment contracts and social insurance / MPF arrangements under both the Shenzhen and Hong Kong entities, contractor-to-employee conversion, confidentiality and IP terms, confirmation of device security software. - Performance management
Organize the discretionary desk’s cycle reviews and the systematic desk’s quarterly evaluations, consolidate scores from reviewers, form performance conclusions and drive their execution; work with the treasury team on the data and employee communication around compensation settlement. - People matters
Disagreements between employees and desk heads, communication during drawdowns, exit conversations, and any dialogue that needs a neutral third party. - Employer brand and team operations
Maintain JDs and the careers pages, run the internal referral scheme, organize team events, handle day-to-day administration for the Shenzhen office and coordinate preparation of the Hong Kong office.
What we look for
- 5+ years in HR, including at least 2 years as an HRBP or generalist at a proprietary trading firm, hedge fund, asset manager or fintech
- Working knowledge of mainland labor contracts, social insurance and employment compliance; familiarity with Hong Kong employment law and MPF, able to support the team’s future move to Hong Kong
- Independent ownership of full recruiting cycles from requirement to onboarding, including headhunter-led searches for senior finance talent
- Performance-management experience: designed or ran evaluation cycles and turned multi-reviewer scoring into actionable conclusions
- Ability to handle sensitive people conversations with neutrality and confidentiality between employees and management
- Fluent Chinese and English are required; able to deal independently with Hong Kong law firms, headhunters and overseas candidates
- Highly organized, with a habit of documentation: processes have checklists, decisions have records, files are traceable
Nice to have
- Built people operations from zero at a small or early-stage trading firm
- Understanding of trader compensation structures (P&L share, hurdle, high-water mark, deferral) and ability to work smoothly with treasury
- Recruiting or HR experience in the digital-asset industry
- Familiarity with Notion, Google Workspace, Slack and ATS / HRIS tools
What you get
- Report directly to the core management team, with a short decision chain; your judgment is acted on
- Deep involvement in shaping how Par Trading runs its people operations
- A hand in every key hire of the firm’s early years, and a direct view of how your work shapes the team
- Competitive compensation and a scope that grows with the team
- Ambitious, diverse, highly professional and entrepreneurial colleagues
- An energetic culture: team dinners, games and team offsites
Location
Shenzhen-based, with Hong Kong later. As the team moves to the Hong Kong office, the center of the role shifts to Hong Kong.
